What we check before an application is lodged

Most refusals we see are not judgement calls. They are a name spelled two ways, a passport that expires six weeks too early, or a document that was correct for a different category.

An immigration officer is not looking for a reason to say no. They are checking a file against a requirement, and a file that does not match gets sent back regardless of how good the underlying case is.

That is the part we can control, so it is the part we spend the time on.

The passport, first and properly

Validity against the intended stay rather than against today. Blank pages. Whether the name on the passport is the name on every other document, in the same order, with the same spelling. A middle name that appears on the booking and not on the passport is a genuinely common cause of a file coming back.

The category, against what you will actually do

Not against how long you are staying. Sightseeing, attending meetings, joining family, working and investing are different categories with different conditions, and the wrong one is refused even when everything inside it is correct.

If what you describe does not fit the route you asked about, we say so before anything is lodged, including when the answer is that we are not the right people for it.

The supporting set, against the current requirement

Requirements move. A checklist that was right last year is not evidence of anything, so we build the set against what is being asked for now, and we flag the documents that commonly cause delays:

  1. Anything issued by a third party, because you do not control the timing.
  2. Anything that needs translating or legalising, for the same reason.
  3. Anything with its own expiry, which has to still be valid at the end of the process rather than at the start.

The dates

Working backwards from your travel, not forwards from today. If the timing does not work, you hear that while there is still room to move something, rather than a week before you fly.

What we tell you

Everything above lands as a list of what to fix and what to send, in an order that puts the slow items first. Nothing on it is a surprise at submission time, because submission is the last step, not the first.

Tell us what you are coming here to do.

Send your nationality, your plan and rough dates. We reply with the visa, its price and the documents it needs. The first assessment is free.
