Family visas for Indonesia, by who the Indonesian side is.

Nine visas. Which one applies depends on who sponsors you and how you are related: spouse, child, parent or sibling of an Indonesian citizen, or of a foreign national with a stay permit. All run one or two years, with free entry and exit.

Who this is for

A family case depends on three things: the relationship, who sponsors you, and whether you are visiting or moving here.

Visiting relatives

A trip to see family, with a return date. Usually a visit visa with a family member as sponsor.

Spouse of an Indonesian citizen

Living here with your spouse needs a stay permit, not a visit visa. The marriage documents carry most of the file.

Dependants of a permit holder

A spouse or children joining someone who holds a stay permit for work or investment. The main permit usually has to be granted first.

Parents or extended family

Fewer relationships qualify than people expect, and it differs by visa. We check yours before you collect any documents.

How it works

Four steps, each one in writing.

  1. 01

    Initial assessment

    Send your nationality, what you will do in Indonesia and your dates. We reply with the visa that fits. If the case is outside what we handle, the reply says so. The first assessment is free.

  2. 02

    Scope and price in writing

    Before you pay, you get the document list, the price for your term, a timing estimate with its assumptions, and what we will not do.

  3. 03

    Document check

    We check each document against the current requirement for your visa. You get a list of anything to fix, and you fix it before we lodge.

  4. 04

    Lodging and follow up

    We lodge the application and track it. If immigration asks for more, we send you the request and what to do about it. Extensions and renewals go through the same contact.

What you will usually need

A family file rests on relationship and sponsor documents. Several usually need a sworn translation or legalisation, and both take time.

Applicant

  • Passport with enough remaining validity
  • Recent photograph to the current specification

Relationship

  • Marriage certificate, birth certificate or equivalent
  • Sworn translation where the document is not in Indonesian
  • Legalisation where the issuing country requires it

Sponsor

  • Sponsor identity documents
  • Sponsor address and status in Indonesia
  • Sponsor letter in the required form

Translation and legalisation are third party costs and often the slowest step. The assessment tells you which of your documents need them.

A family case usually waits on documents, not on immigration.

If your documents are held in another country, tell us at the start. Getting them is the usual reason a family case runs late.

Family questions

My spouse is Indonesian. Which visa is that?
E31A, a stay permit sponsored by your spouse. The marriage documents and your spouse’s identity documents are the core of the file.
Can my family join me if I hold a work permit?
Yes. Dependants of a stay permit holder have their own visas. Your permit usually has to be granted first, so we file yours, then theirs.
Can I work on a family visa?
Permission to live here and permission to work are separate. Do not assume one gives you the other. If you intend to work, say so in the assessment and we cover both.
Do my documents need translating?
Usually, if they are not in Indonesian, and some also need legalisation depending on where they were issued. Both are third party costs, named in your quote.
Which relatives count as family for this?
Spouses, children (including stepchildren and adopted children of a citizen), parents, and siblings of a permit holder. It differs by visa, so we check your relationship before you collect any documents.
