A work visa needs an Indonesian sponsoring company, and most of the file comes from the company. The position sets the code: E23 for a general employee, E25A to E25E for commissioners, directors and managers, and separate codes for digital experts, religious workers and diplomatic household staff.

A KITAS is not a visa.
People use the word for any Indonesian visa. A KITAS is the limited stay permit issued after the right visa, and on a work case the sponsoring company has its own filings with the Ministry of Manpower. We track the three separately, so each has an owner.

You have an offer or an assignment in Indonesia, and the visa, the stay permit and the company’s filings have to be done in order.
Companies hiring foreign staff
The sponsoring company files with the Ministry of Manpower before the visa can be lodged. We work with your HR or admin contact in Bahasa Indonesia or English.
Renewals and changes
A permit to renew, or a change of employer, role or location. Timing matters more here than in a first application.
Remote and independent workers
You will be in Indonesia while earning from abroad. The visa depends on your arrangement, and a visit visa may not cover it.

The steps, in the order they have to happen.
A work case fails when a step is done out of order. This is the order.

Assess both sides
The role, the activities, your nationality and the sponsoring company’s registration. If the company side needs work first, we say so at this step.

Company filings first
The employer files the foreign worker plan with the Ministry of Manpower before the employee’s visa can be lodged. This step usually takes the longest.
- 03
Visa, then stay permit
We lodge the work visa, then settle the stay permit after you arrive. The same contact handles both.
- 04
Renewal planned in advance
The renewal date is set at the start. We tell you and the employer when the renewal window opens.
What you will usually need
A work file has two document sets: one from the employee, one from the sponsoring company. We check both before we lodge.

- Confirmation of the sponsorship

- Sworn translations where documents are not in Indonesian
- Legalisation where the issuing country requires it
Qualification certificates held abroad often cause delays. If yours are, tell us in the assessment and we start on them first.
Timing
The employer’s filings usually set the pace. Plan backwards from when the company is ready.
If the employee has already been promised a start date, tell us at the beginning and we tell you whether it works.
Work and KITAS questions
- Is KITAS a visa?
- No. A visa lets you enter Indonesia. A KITAS is the limited stay permit that lets you live here, issued after the right visa. On a work case the sponsoring company also has filings of its own. Three separate things.
- Can I arrange this without a sponsoring company?
- No. Every work visa needs an Indonesian sponsor. Without one, the work visa is not open to you yet, and we will not take the case.
- I work remotely for a company abroad. What applies to me?
- It depends on who pays you, from where, and what you do while here. Do not assume a visit visa covers it. Describe your setup and we name the visa.
- Can my family come with me?
- Yes. Dependants of a stay permit holder have their own family visas. Your permit usually has to be granted first. See the family page for the codes.
- What happens if I change employer?
- A new employer, role or work location changes the permit, and the change is not automatic. Tell us before the change happens.
- What is KITAP and when does it matter?
- KITAP is the permanent stay permit, open only after a qualifying period on a limited stay permit. If you plan to stay long term, it affects how the first permit is set up.
